Students will have the opportunity to play musical instruments together as a band, receiving the knowledge required to address different musical styles and techniques to play and enjoy music as a group, while developing interpretative sensitivity to perform, interacting with their peers.

This course provides a comprehensive study in methods of sculpture, hand-built clay construction. Students explore three dimensional design while developing both useful and sculptural forms. Creativity and quality craftsmanship are emphasized.

Students will develop voice projection, diction, placement and musical ear, as well voice techniques development, giving them the opportunity to perform as a choral ensemble, enjoying a rich repertoire with different music styles.

Composition is how artwork is put together. It is how the artist INTENTIONALLY uses the elements and principles of art to create the artwork. Students will learn and apply the 4 main concepts of Art Composition to create their own original artwork.

Color Theory covers not only the basic elements of color theory, but also provide an opportunity for the more intuitive and practical applications of color in the making of art. The student will learn about and apply through their own artwork the perceptual, symbolic, and cultural significances of color.

Provides a basic foundation of both design and realistic drawing. Basic techniques are presented to encourage personal creativity and a successful beginning artistic experience using a variety of materials and processes. Students will cultivate their imagination and ability to express their ideas visually with a variety of creative strategies. Learning to use color, light, and other visual elements will be explored. Types of art making that will be explored include: portraiture, still life, perspective, and conceptually derived artwork. Entrepreneurship 101 will focus on recognizing business opportunities and the fundamentals of starting, operating and maintaining a business. Business principles including accounting, business plan writing, finance, marketing, ethics and risk will be discussed and studied. This project based, “real world” application class will conclude with a group project that will emphasize and expose your ability to work in a group to start a business. Project evaluations will be made by the teacher as well as local investors and business owners.

Health education is designed to build students' knowledge, skills, and positive attitudes about health. Our Health class will cover physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social health. It motivates students to improve and maintain their overall health, prevent disease, and choose proper personal habit patterns. Some of the topics we will cover will include proper mental health practices, applying Christian values, stress/anxiety, and social influences. We will also cover the basics of human body systems, nutrition, and exercise. [Mrs. Weir]

This course is designed to introduce students to the world of Interior Design. They will use hands on tools and resources to learn about the use of color, finish selections, floor plan layouts and project presentations.

A high school movie discussion class based on Focus on the Family’s curriculum “Movie Nights.” Students will view one movie per month (rated G, PG or PG-13 only). Discretion will be used in choosing the movie to view. We will then spend time answering a page of questions about the movie before discussing the movie in the light of God’s truth.

The course of study covers early Indian, Swede and Dutch settlements. The life and times of William Penn and the Quaker influence are a large part of our studies. This leads us to the French and Indian War and the start of the American Revolution, highlighting the important roles PA leaders played. This course also includes many field trips such as Ringing Rocks, Centralia and the PA State Farm Show.

This class is a practical course designed to offer the novice speaker to multiple opportunities to organize and prepare public speaking assessments. The class will also propose several occasions for the beginner speaker to stand in front of a live audience and present his/her practiced performance. Students will learn the role of effective communication in our lives, the communication model, speech objectives, delivery styles, and the effectiveness of language, gestures, and organizational techniques. Our goal is for students to fine tune and deepen their knowledge of the Spanish language (just as a heritage speaker does in a Spanish speaking country) in order to acquire the skills necessary to communicate. Skills will be focused on listening, speaking, and writing. They will be expected to communicate primarily in Spanish. Students will also analyze and compare some of the many cultures of the Spanish speaking world through authentic sources and literature. Units of study for this course include Daily Life and the Community (La vida cotidiana y la comunidad), Professions, Health, and Recreation (Los oficios, la salud y el recreo), Free Time (El tiempo libre)

Introduction to sports medicine with focus on the fundamentals of physical therapy and athletic training evaluation, assessment, intervention, treatment and documentation.

This class reviews the basics of Intro to Sports Medicine 101 and then dives into hands on practical based learning. There will be greater emphasis on manual techniques learned through practice with treatment and management for various athletic injuries, looking at imaging, new topics in sports psychology and deeper focus on concussion management. This is for those students who have an interest in pursuing a career in the sports medicine field.

Students will learn methods of organizing, displaying, analyzing, and making conclusions with data. Students will also solve problems using the mathematics of probability and chance, building off concepts learned in prior core math courses. Statistics gives students the opportunity to showcase what they have learned by collecting data in person and online, conducting studies, and sharing their results in formal slideshow presentations. The highlight of the year is Game Day, in which students get to create their own probability-based (and intentionally rigged) carnival games!

S.T.E.A.M. intertwines the multiple disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math into one curriculum. Through experimentation and problem solving, students encounter real-world applications of design. Topic explored will include Solar Power, Bridge building, projectile motion and an introduction to an open-source electronics platform based on easy-to-use hardware and software. [Mrs. Weir]

A one-semester course designed for students in grades 9-12 who are enrolling in a high school art course for the first time. It provides a variety of experiences that build on the concepts, techniques, and use of media introduced in the middle school program.  High School Visual Arts explores and gives experience in two-dimensional (drawing, painting, printmaking) and three-dimensional (sculpture, craft, textiles) formats and integrates art history, design principles, and aesthetic criticism and response. This is a pre-requisite for all high school art electives.
